The
Fall
The world is not full of people who love God, is it? In fact,
the Bible says that rather than loving God and giving glory to him,
we have all tried to put ourselves at the centre of the world. We
are all caught up in a world-wide rebellion against him.
That's why our lives are such a mess
most of the time. Some of us might look better than others on the
outside, but inside we're all pretty messed up. We're all proud and
greedy, arrogant, boastful, foolish and selfish. We're all basically
haters of God at heart.
And it’s been that way since the beginning.
When God made the first man and woman he gave them a choice – to
love him and obey him, or to love themselves and disobey him. He
spelt out the consequences to them beforehand – eternal life if they
loved him, judgement if they didn’t. They decided for themselves how they thought
they should live (the Bible calls this 'sin') and chose, just as we
all do, not to love God or give glory to him, but rather to try to
put themselves at the centre of God's world.
Oh dear! It looks as if God's plan may have
gone wrong right at the start. But has it? Read
on. |
